Motorcycle Crash Victim Dies; Oelwein Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide

A Jesup woman has died from her injuries after a June 22 motorcycle crash in Black Hawk County.

Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office said Katyln Leekley, 20, died Thursday.

Leekley was a passenger on a motorcyle driven by Derek Lee Martie, 24, also of Jesup, who was also injured. They were driving on Dubuque Road east of South Canfield Road around 9:35 p.m. June 22 when they collided with a pickup driven by Bryan Allen Cornwell, 22, of Oelwein.

Cornwell was stopped approximately eight miles from the scene of the accident by Evansdale Police, authorities said, where he was charged with two counts of serious injury by vehicle and one count of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

He has now also been charged with vehicular homicide.

Cornwell remains in custody in the Black Hawk County Jail and will make his initial appearance on this new charge on Friday morning.
