Today's riddle: What do you call a paper airplane that can't fly? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. University of Northern Iowa Nursing Earns ACEN Accreditation (dyersville247.com) — Residents in Cedar Falls can now count on the University of Northern Iowa's nursing program being nationally accredited, strengthening local training for future nurses who will serve Iowa communities. The new accreditation, retroactive to June 2024, supports both the traditional and accelerated BSN tracks, highlighting UNI's upgraded simulation labs, clinical partnerships across the region, and a strong focus on practice-ready graduates.
2. Week ending Sept. 26: Lowest premium gas in Black Hawk County reaches $4.78 (waterlootimes.com) — Cedar Falls drivers recently saw some of Black Hawk County's lowest premium gas prices, with local stations reporting $4.89 per gallon during the week ending Sept. 26. Countywide, premium averaged $5.16, slightly below the statewide average, as broader global oil tensions and refinery issues continued to push fuel costs up and down.
3. UNI cross country/track & field: Woody, Knodle to be celebrated with jersey retirement ceremonies (unipanthers.com) — UNI fans in Cedar Falls can join homecoming festivities Saturday as standout runners Joey Woody and Paige (Knodle) Bohannon have their jerseys retired at 1 p.m. in Eldon Miller Plaza. The ceremony, part of UNI's first All-Sports Reunion, also honors stars from several discontinued sports as the university wraps up its sesquicentennial celebration.
4. Local Teacher, Rachel Larsen, Recruited for Multi-State Midwest STEM Alliance Initiative (westerniowatoday.com) — Cedar Falls briefly took center stage in June when the new Midwest STEM Alliance brought 18 top rural elementary science teachers to the University of Northern Iowa for an intensive two-day institute. The multi-state, NSF-funded project will keep supporting these educators with stipends, classroom resources, and national training as they expand hands-on STEM opportunities in their rural schools.
