The UNI Gallery of Art will present a new exhibition, "REVERB: Recent Abstraction in Painting" from Monday, Jan. 14 through Saturday, Mar. 2, 2013. The following artists lectures to be presented in Kamerick Art Building South, room 111: Christie Blizard, January 14 at 7 p.m. and Dana Saulnier, February 4 at 7 p.m. Each lecture will be followed by a reception. Sponsored in part by the Sarah Elizabeth Hearst Visiting Artist fund.
Curated by Assistant Professor of Art Kenneth Hall, this group invitational exhibition features new work by Scott Anderson (Albuquerque, New Mexico), Jimmy Baker (Cincinnati, Ohio), Christie Blizard (Lubbock, Texas), the late Megan Dirks (Sioux City, Iowa), Angelina Gualdoni (Brooklyn, New York), Mary Laube (Iowa City, Iowa), Dana Saulnier (Oxford, Ohio), and Deborah Zlotsky (Albany, New York). These artists have been assembled because of their passionate investigations into expressive mark making and gestural iconography.
Curator Kenneth Hall states, "Contemporary abstract painting shows interesting tendencies toward figuration (though not necessarily the human body) as it responds to the senses. The subject of seeing and the senses, generally, is a theme in the work of these artists who bring unique viewpoints and aesthetics to show a robust variety in contemporary abstract painting. The term reverb connotes music, and the effect of enhancing sound by way of technology… making it more spacious, more layered, and more dynamic."
