UNI to feature ship camouflage talk on Halloween

Claudia Covert, librarian at the Fleet Library, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), will present her lecture, "Bedazzled: World War I Dazzle Ship Camouflage" at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the University of Northern Iowa's Kamerick Art Building, Room 111. The lecture will be followed by a reception and hallway exhibition.

The lecture is a richly illustrated presentation on the bizarre, colorful camouflage patterns applied to Allied ships in World War I. RISD has a collection of 455 color lithographic plans of “dazzle camouflage” ship designs, which Covert has researched. She will present some of her findings during her presentation.

The event is free and open to the public, and participants are encouraged to show up in costume, as part of Halloween festivities.
