The University of Northern Iowa’s Continuing and Distance Education is accepting applications now through March 25 for a Master of Arts in Education: Literacy Education degree program scheduled to begin Fall 2013. The degree can be completed over a three-year period and examines theories, programs and practices in the teaching of literacy, the evaluation of literacy development and the integration of literacy across curricular areas. Students enrolled in the program are encouraged to apply for The Stanley and Norma Reeves Scholarship; applications received by February 15 will be eligible for the $1,000 scholarship awarded annually.
The degree, earned entirely at a distance, is delivered using a cohort model in which a group of students moves through a course sequence together. Courses in this program are offered via interactive video conferencing methods during fall and spring semesters. Summer sessions have been structured to meet financial aid requirements. Some courses and coursework are offered online using eLearning, a Blackboard learning management system requiring Internet access and a web browser.
