Celebrating National Women’s Health Week: Health and Wellness Blog
Did you know that the US dedicates a week each year to Women's Health?

Last week we celebrated National Women’s Health Week, including overall health and wellness, bone health and heart health. Women today experience more stress at every stage of life, with new moms topping that list of highly stressed women!
The New Moms Speak Out report, a 2008 national survey of women who gave birth in U.S. hospitals in 2005, found 43 percent of respondents said stress was a major postpartum problem, followed closely by weight concerns, lack of sleep, and physical exhaustion. Jamie McManus, M.D., FAAFP, Chair of Medical Affairs, Health Science, & Education recommends relaxation, healthy eating, exercise, and social support for new moms and all women. I find it interesting that these recommendations parallel the Power 9™ that we just discussed for the last couple months =).
Although I do not have children yet, I can identify with most of those health concerns just from keeping a busy schedule. I also hosted a conference call today that reminded me of the health (and business) benefits from relaxation and a positive environment. Our guest even cited a study of heart surgery patients that showed significantly faster recovery in patients surrounded by fun, happiness, and laughter before their surgery. I love that no matter what season of life we find, the same activities can improve our health and wellness.
