Loved Ones First: The Final Habit for a Blue Zone Lifestyle: Health and Wellness Blog
Did you know that a positive, committed relationship can add up to three years of life expectancy?

Did you find or renew your connection with a faith-based community last week? I miss my Bible study that takes a break during the summer, AND I may have the opportunity to start a new one :).
This week I want to focus on the final healthy habit from the Power 9™: move naturally, know your purpose, down shift, 80% rule, plant slant, wine at 5, right tribe, community, loved ones first.
According to Blue Zones Project, happy, healthy centenarians in the Blue Zones® areas put their families first. This can take shape in many ways, from keeping your aging parents and grandparents in or near your home to being in a positive, committed relationship, which can add up to three years of life expectancy. Caring for children is important for many reasons, too, and many people in the Blue Zones areas go out of their way to invest time and love their children to ensure they'll be more likely to care for them when the time comes.

Luckily we do not have aging parents/grandparents since we live five to seven hours away from home. I just told my husband the other day that I consider myself in the business of continuous improvement, both personally and in our relationship. I believe this will help us grow in a positive direction and maybe add even more than three years of life expectancy :).
We had this conversation as we drove home from visiting our four month old twin nephews. Although we have not ventured into children of our own yet, Blue Zones Project offers another good reason to be the best parent you can. I have heard that healthy children make healthy grandchildren; I appreciate the reminder that happy, loved children create happy, loving caretakers.
