Recipe for a Healthy School Year: Health and Wellness Blog
Did you know that several of the Blue Zones' Power 9™ can also help us have a healthier school year?

This year we learned the Power 9™ healthy habits that have contributed to longer, healthier lives for those living in Blue Zones: move naturally, know your purpose, down shift, 80% rule, plant slant, wine at 5, right tribe, community, loved ones first.
Did you know that several of these can also help us have a healthier school year? Moving naturally, or playing, can help students feel better and pump blood throughout the body – including the brain. Down shifting can help students take a break after classes and refocus before extracurricular activities and homework. 80% rule will help the body focus on optimal health, including fighting germs, instead of digesting extra food. Plant slant will provide the fuel and nutrients the body (and brain) need to function well. Wine at 5, right tribe, community, and loved ones first all focus on fellowship and surrounding yourself with supportive family and friends, which obviously also have an impact on health if they made it in the Power 9™.
I like to add rest, pure water, and natural, whole-food supplements to that list. At first it sounds like a lot to remember, and I still have room for improvement in several of these areas :). Although these healthy habits may look different in each stage of life, I have found them easier to incorporate in my daily life as I make them part of my lifestyle. I have heard that a healthy immune system makes the best prevention for disease and proactive step for optimal health. No wonder the Power 9™ made such an impact for those living in Blue Zones – they address several key factors to the immune system and multiple aspects of health (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual).
