Cedar Falls Public Works Assist In Cedar Rapids Derecho Recovery

As Iowan communities continue to work to repair damage from the derecho that hit the area on August 10, 2020, Public Works crews in Cedar Falls have traveled to Cedar Rapids to help the city with their recovery efforts.

Two Cedar Falls Public Works crews arrived on Tuesday, August 18, and are working to repair the damaged traffic signals and street signs caused by the severe storm. This includes straightening signal heads and cameras as well as doing critical regulatory sign maintenance. The Cedar Falls team is expected to be there until the end of the month as Cedar Rapids continues their recovery.

“Coming together to help others is what it means to be Iowa strong,” said Chase Schrage, Cedar Falls Public Works Director. “We were extremely lucky that the storm missed us in Cedar Falls and we want to take that opportunity to assist our Cedar Rapids neighbors.”
