Coming Wednesday: Withheld Price Lab Letters You'll Want to See

The documents meant for the Board of Regents are full of reason and passion -- which apparently wasn't reason enough for the board to review them.

Letters intended for the Board of Regents prior to a vote on whether to close Price Lab were sent by the dozens. Many of them arrived via email to the office of Bob Donley, the regents executive director.

As Cedar Falls Patch has reported, though, the regents apparently didn’t hear from these people. The letters appear to have stopped with Donley and were not forwarded.

The letters came from faculty, from UNI students, from alumni -- all opposed to Price Lab's closure. None of the letters were abusive or insulting. They were reasoned and filled with passion.

Said one:

"It is critical that the Board of Regents hears from the experts in the College of Education, from the UNI students, from the community members (and) taxpayers, and that you consider the real and extensive impact to education if we lose this critical piece in the UNI teacher education program."

Coming tomorrow in Patch’s coverage of the backroom maneuverings of the Price Lab closure: The reason and the passion the regents apparently never received.
