Dr Martie Reineke discusses the process that went into researching and writing her book, Intimate Domain: Desire, Trauma, and Mimetic Theory

Monday, March 2 at 12pm in the UNI’s Center for Multicultural Education.

Martha J. Reineke, Professor of Religion in the Department of Philosophy and World Religions, will offer an inside look at the process that went into researching and writing her latest book, Intimate Domain: Desire, Trauma, and Mimetic Theory. In this book she looks at how family relationships in which fathers, mothers, and siblings play are decisive role are important in three psychologically rich narratives: Marcel Proust’s In Search of Lost Time, Sophocles’ Antigone, and Julia Kristeva’s The Old Man and the Wolves. While focusing on these works, she draws new attention to the embodied nature of familial relationships and how they are colored by both desire and trauma.

This event is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the UNI Women’s and Gender Studies Program.
