The Cedar Falls Lions Club, at the invitation of Earl May Garden Center, will be hosting a Kids Safety Day on Saturday October 6th from 10am until 3pm. The event will be held at the Earl May Garden Center, 2501 Melrose Avenue in Cedar Falls. The event will feature free eye screenings for children one to four years old. The Cedar Falls Police will offer fingerprinting for the children; The Cedar Falls Fire Department will have a fire truck on display and a smoke house for the kids to learn how to escape from a burning building. There will be kids’ games, bouncy house, face painting, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin painting and pumpkin carving.
The Cedar Falls Lions Club offers free eye screening to over 1000 children each year as a way to detect early eye problems. This is a non-invasive procedure where a photograph of the child’s eyes is taken and is forwarded to the Iowa Lions Eye Center in Iowa City for evaluation. This year we decided to add additional safety events. We want to do everything we can to keep our children safe and healthy. This year we are more aware than ever before of the need to keep our kids safe. Safety means more than just knowing where they are: it is teaching children life skills safety.
This is a great way to spend an hour or two, have some fun, buy a pumpkin for Halloween, see some fall decorating ideas, and let your kids learn about safety in a fun way. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to attend.
