Cedar Falls will soon host a concert of Indian music (plus perhaps of a bit of east/west fusion) by John Wubbenhorst, playing the bansuri (Indian bamboo flute), as well as western flute; and Samrat Kakkeri, playing the tabla (drums). It will be held at the studio of Field of Yoga, 115 E. 4th St., #101, downtown Cedar Falls; on Saturday, November 17th, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15, either on-line through the studio's web site at: fieldofyoga.com, or at the door. Please bring a sitting cushion or a folding chair (contact: Mary McGinnis-Meyer, 319-830-2080). John Wubbenhorst has appeared in Cedar Falls a number of times previously. He's an American, who has studied extensively in India and in Europe with bansuri virtuoso Hariprasad Chaurasia, among others. He has performed around the world with a great variety of fusion and world music artists, as well as musicians from North and South India. John's
website, FacingEast.com, describes his musical life and shows him in action. John's tablist for the performance is Samrat Kakkeri. Samrat is one of the great tabla players of India, and comes from a long line of musicians. He learned from his own father, the renowned tabla virtuoso Pandit Mohan Rao Kakkeri. John's concerts here have shown spectacular mastery of his genre and are musically very exciting.
