Hey Students, Apartment Rental Hunt for Fall is in Full Swing: Cedar Falls Business Spotlight

It's only April, but the apartment rental hunt is in full swing for next fall.

Julianne Bacon, a corporate marketing and leasing specialist for American Campus Community, spent a day at University of Northern Iowa's Maucker Union last week handing out information about University Mills, which is an American Campus Community offering student housing in Cedar Falls.

"It is really busy right now," Bacon said. "This is when students are preleasing for fall."

She was handing out T-shirts and other goodies.

Most leases run for 12 months from August to August, but they do have some short term leases, Bacon said. Units start at $429.

University Mills units offers furnished and unfurnished units, proximity to campus, a clubhouse with fitness center, computer lab, tanning bed, game room, video gaming lounge, sport courts, resort-style pool with a hot tub, and much more, according to its website.

Bacon said one nice feature is individual liability leases, which essentially mean that you won't get stuck if your roommate walks out on the bill. There's also onsite maintenance staff, she said.

With 160 student housing properties containing nearly 99,000 beds, American Campus Communities bills itself as "the nation's largest developer, owner and manager of high-quality student housing communities."
