Jakes Day Event Is Set

The Northeast Iowa Longbeards will host their annual JAKES Day event starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 22 at Black Hawk Park in Cedar Falls. The event is open to all boys and girls ages 5 to 15 interested in learning more about the great outdoors.

All participating JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics, Sportsmanship) will have the opportunity to learn about archery, target shooting,  trap shooting, taxidermy, gun safety, dog training and of course, hunting wild turkeys with the NE Iowa Longbeards, the local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Representatives from Delta Decoys of Dike will be on hand to demonstrate and teach archery shooting and a professional  taxidermist will explain and exhibit his work. The Cedar Falls Police Department will start the day with a gun safety instruction and demonstration. 

Registration starts at 9 a.m. Events will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $15 per JAKE and includes all shooting events, a one-year JAKES membership, a subscription to the NWTF JAKES magazine, a JAKES t-shirt, lunch, and prizes.
Parents are encouraged to join in and participate with their children also.
