Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad remains popular with Iowans, according to a new poll, but many of those same voters also think he has served long enough.

The majority of Iowans like the governor - he has aΒ 51 to 33 percent job approval rating,Β according to a aΒ Quinnipiac University poll released Friday. ButΒ 54 percentΒ of voters said theyΒ don’t think he deserves a sixth four-year term.

AskedΒ if Branstad β€œdeserves to be re-elected,” 46 percent said yes, whileΒ 43 percent said no.

The pollΒ wasΒ of 1,256 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.

Branstad has been in office, on-and-off, for a combined 19 years. He has not officially announced a desire to run for another term, but he has hired campaign staffers and has more than $2 million in his campaign treasury.
