Sheriff: Black Hawk County Phone Scam Seeks Personal Info Under Guise of Arrest Warrant

A person notified authorities a caller demanded personal information and they had a warrant out for her arrest.

Here's another reminder to be leery when people call - even with an official sounding story - asking for your personal information.

Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office has issued a phone scam warning.

On Monday, a person notified authorities that she received a call from a man who claimed there was a warrant out for her arrest and that she needed to provide her social security number, according to a statement from the sheriff's department.

When she didn't comply, the caller said the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office "would be there within the hour to arrest her."

The caller initially used the name Rick Foster and later stated he was Greg Foster. The caller also said Officer Justin Floyd was investigating the case. The caller had called from this number: 704-764-1066.

Authorities said no Greg or Rick Foster, or Justin Floyd works for the sheriff's department, and the sheriff's office verified the woman had no arrest warrants out on her.
