Supermoon 2013: Local Weather Forecast, When and Where to Watch

So will the skies cooperate over Cedar FallsΒ so we can allΒ witness the mostΒ super "supermoon"Β this year?

The answer is very Iowa-y, we'll see. TheΒ weather forecastΒ is a chance of rain onΒ June 22-23, when the moonΒ will appear super large and super close to Earth.

On June 22-23,Β the moon is at perigee β€” its closest approach to Earth, according toΒ AstronomyΒ magazine's website. The moon will be just 221,824 miles away from us.

So what's the best time to see thisΒ Supermoon? EarthSky says the moon will officially be full at 6:32 a.m. CDT Sunday. The actualΒ perigeeΒ takes place about 20 minutes prior, according toΒ Astronomy.

Don't want to get up at 6:32 a.m. to see the supermoon? The moon will look just about as full the evening of June 22, according toΒ Astronomy, and it'll be full the evening of June 23.

EarthSky says this is the closest theΒ moonΒ will be to Earth until Aug. 10, 2014.Β

Happy skywatching!
