Weird Iowa: Going Bonkers in Walmart, Grassley Gets 'Stupid,' Virtuous Video, and Can a Dog Be Too Cute for Adoption?

Iowa has no shortage of weird news. Here's some of it from around our Iowa Patches.

Iowa-wise, the week was pretty slow when it comes to weirdness.

You may not believe that, though, if you happened to find the wrong time to saunter into the Ankeny Walmart.

We reported about a woman now facing charges after she allegedly destroyed merchandise and swore at Ankeny  employees when they wouldn’t let her return something not on her receipt.

Jenell E. Nyberg, 26, of Iowa City, was arrested by  in the early morning hours of April 9 after she left Walmart, 1002 S.E. National Drive, on her bike. She eventually was apprehended in the 2600 block of Southeast Hulsizer Road and arrested for failing to cooperate with officers.

Wal-Mart has already decided to impose its own punishment on the woman..

We asked all our Iowa Patch readers about the incident earlier in the month that involved Sen. Chuck Grassley, President Barack Obama and "stupid." We wanted to know how that was playing in Iowa.

Answer: Not good.

People from every Patch had something to say about the senator's wisdom in Tweeting insults at the president. Others had some things to say about the president.

In Ames, we've presented the wonderfully weird talents of Sam Ennis on a few occasions. We can't get enough of this kid.

Hoping to win $20,000 in a national competition to encourage teens to , Ennis learned this week that he won another national video contest to encourage teens to save their cash.

The Ames High School student won first place in The Lights, Camera, Save! Video contest sponsored by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation and locally by Principal Bank for his video where everything in his life multiplies. Ennis was presented with a $3,000 U.S. Savings bond and an iPad on Monday.

Finally, this last little item, from Marion, qualifies as weird only if you take a look at the dog involved. His name is Binx, and we find it way odd that he's spent even one minute waiting to be adopted.

He is a funny, lovable Cockapoo who plays great with older children. He is both laid back and playful — he loves to fetch balls (But he won't necessarily give them back to you)! This sweet boy is crate-trained and well-mannered, but he does not get along with other dogs.
