An Extra Hour as Daylight Savings Time 2012 Comes to an End

Daylight Savings Time is coming to an end. With that extra hour, consider donating blood to help the Red Cross in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.

Daylight Savings Time ends soon – officially at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4.

Remember, you’ll β€œfall back” and set your clocks back one hour. Many electronic devices automatically adjust when Daylight Savings Time begins or ends.

What to do with that extra hour? Something to consider is giving blood - the Red Cross has reported a need for blood after superstorm Sandy led to hundreds of blood drives being canceled.

In the Cedar Valley, you can donate at the Waterloo Red Cross Donation Center, 2530 University Ave. The Center takes blood donations Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and on on the second and fourth Fridays of the month from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

When you change your clocks in the fall and spring, it’s also a good time to change smoke detector batteries and check to make sure device are in working order.

Arizona, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa do not observe Daylight Savings Time.

It begins again on March 10, 2013.
