1. City of Coralville sues UIHC for breaking promise to build 2nd medical building on Iowa River Landing (1630kcjj.com) — Coralville is suing University of Iowa Health Care, claiming it spent over $11 million on parking, land, and utilities at Iowa River Landing based on a promise for a second medical building that was never built. The city alleges breach of contract after UIHC located its orthopedic hospital in North Liberty instead, pushing a long-simmering dispute into Johnson County court.
2. Coralville man charged with assaulting officers at IMCC (1630kcjj.com) — A Coralville man faces multiple felony-level assault-on-officer charges after two separate incidents at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center this summer, both captured on surveillance video. Prosecutors say he punched and head-butted correctional officers, causing injuries, and he now faces potential prison time of up to 20 years if convicted on all counts.
3. See memorials to teacher, student who drowned at Borlaug Elementary (press-citizen.com) — Memorials at Borlaug Elementary in Coralville honor teacher Hannah Jorgensen and fifth-grader Ahmed Osman, who drowned during a recent School of the Wild field trip. Painted rocks, banners, and displays around the school reflect the community's grief and support as students, staff, and families navigate the loss together.
4. Johnson County Housing Trust Fund offers up to $3M for affordable housing projects (cbs2iowa.com) — Affordable housing projects that could benefit Coralville residents can now seek part of up to $3 million from the Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County. Nonprofits, builders, and local governments may apply by Nov. 2 for loans supporting homes for households earning under 80% of area median income, with Coralville helping fund the program alongside other local partners.
