New Federal 'Harvest to Hallways' School Lunch Initiative Falls Short for Iowa Farmers (kcrg.com) — From Davenport farm and school leaders argue a new federal "Harvest to Hallways" program doesn't replace recently lost funding that once helped get local food into school cafeterias. They say the smaller investment and regulatory hurdles make it hard for large districts like North Scott and nearby East Moline to consistently serve local produce despite clear student health benefits.
2. City of Davenport sending out community survey for 2026 (wqad.com) — Davenport is rolling out its 2026 Community Survey, starting with a random sample of residents from all eight wards before opening it to everyone in two weeks. City leaders say responses will help shape future priorities and budget decisions, and emphasize that survey invitations will never ask for passwords or financial information. Meta settlement brings new restrictions for young social media users (kwqc.com) — A Davenport-based mental health leader is explaining how a massive Meta settlement could soon cap teens' Facebook and Instagram use at about two hours a day, with added overnight limits and school-hour notification cuts. He welcomes the guardrails but stresses they're no substitute for parents and schools setting their own boundaries and watching for warning signs like isolation, mood shifts, and sleep problems.
4. LLBWS roundup: Ohio rolls on, will meet Nevada in U.S. title game (statenews.net) — Iowa's Little League team from Davenport fell 7–1 to Ohio in the U.S. lower-bracket final at the World Series, ending their title hopes. Pitcher Kannon Kane worked 4 1/3 innings, but Ohio's early four-run first inning proved too much to overcome as Hamilton, Ohio advanced to face Nevada.
