1. Mold remediation closing The River's Edge (ourquadcities.com) — Davenport has temporarily closed The River's Edge Ice Arena for four to five weeks starting September 11 to address humidity-related mold and maintenance issues. Parks and Recreation services are shifting to Fairmount Community Center with reduced hours, Learn to Skate is canceled with refunds, and youth hockey must pause local use. The city plans plant-based remediation and will share reopening updates online.
   

2. Great Oaks High School, Davenport, plans ribbon-cutting; governor will attend (ourquadcities.com) — A new tuition-free charter option, Great Oaks High School & Career Center, is opening its Davenport campus at 3562 North Brady Street with a public ribbon-cutting on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Gov. Kim Reynolds will join students, families, and staff to celebrate a program focused on flexible scheduling, credit recovery, and career training in fields like construction, manufacturing, and healthcare for local teens and young adults.
   

3. 'In the Heights,' September 15 (rcreader.com) — A special screening of the musical film "In the Heights" is set for Tuesday, September 15 at 7 p.m. at The Last Picture House in downtown Davenport, with tickets $15. Presented through the Quad Cities Latino Cinema Series, the movie offers a high-energy story about community, heritage, and dreams, giving Davenport filmgoers a chance to see it on the big screen again.
   

4. Attendees tag butterflies, learn about insect conservation at Nahant Marsh's annual Monarch Party (wqad.com) — Families from Davenport and beyond flocked to Nahant Marsh for the 11th annual Monarch Party, where kids and adults helped tag monarch butterflies for migration research. Educators used the hands-on activities to highlight insect conservation, biodiversity, and simple steps like planting native species to support healthier habitats for butterflies, birds, and other wildlife around the community.
   

5. Davenport Speedway races into the past (ourquadcities.com) — Davenport Speedway just hosted a packed night of vintage racing, with drivers from five states and full results for every class. Local race fans can also look ahead to the Night of Destruction on Sept. 19 and a Sprint Invaders return on Sept. 25, both promising more action right here in Davenport.
