1. Blues Fest returns to Davenport with 2 days of live music (wqad.com) — Davenport's LeClaire Park will host a two-day Mississippi Valley Blues Fest this Friday and Saturday, featuring free workshops and big-name blues artists. Locals can catch performances from Shemekia Copeland, Big Bill Morganfield, and others, plus expanded "Blues School" sessions and a late-night Tent Jam. Anyone 25 and under gets in free, with food vendors on-site and outside food restricted.
2. FAME: A novel workforce program (quadcitiesbusiness.com subscription) — In Davenport, 14 students have signed on to the new Riverbend FAME program, splitting their week between paid work at local manufacturers and classes at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges. The two-year track aims to graduate them debt-free with in-demand industrial maintenance skills and likely full-time jobs. Local employers and educators hope more companies will join to ease the region's manufacturing talent shortage.
3. Highly Suspect and Yelawolf, September 26 (rcreader.com) — Davenport's Capitol Theatre will host a co-headlining concert with Highly Suspect and Yelawolf on Saturday, September 26, at 7 p.m. Local fans can expect an energetic mix of rock, rap, and hip-hop influences, plus an additional set by Passengers Unknown. Tickets run $60–$124, with more details available through the venue's online ticketing partner.
4. QCA nonprofits receive $500,000 through QC Community Foundation grant program (ourquadcities.com) — A Davenport nonprofit, Unity House of Davenport, is among 36 organizations sharing more than $500,000 in new Quad Cities Community Foundation grants to support operations and programs. The funding backs a wide range of services, from basic needs and legal aid to arts, youth programs, and food assistance, helping strengthen community resources available to Davenport residents and their neighbors across the region.
5. Choose Risk Over Regret: Sarah Gibson's Internship at KWQC (loras.edu) — A Loras College student spent the summer reporting at KWQC Channel 6 in Davenport, gaining hands-on experience telling local stories that matter to viewers like you. Her internship at the station highlighted how Quad Cities newsrooms help shape future journalists, while also showing how local features can reach national audiences when picked up by larger networks.
