Iowa farmers behind on harvest as wet September comes to close (kwqc.com) — Farmers across Iowa, including around Davenport, are well behind on corn and soybean harvests after one of the wettest Septembers on record left them with barely a day suitable for fieldwork. State officials say crops still rate mostly good to excellent, but saturated topsoil, surplus subsoil moisture, and slightly cooler temperatures are slowing maturity and keeping combines parked for now.
2. Smart Automotive prepares to open 3 new dealership locations in Davenport (wqad.com) — New Smart Lexus, Hyundai, and Kia dealerships are set to open along East 53rd Street this fall, expanding auto sales and service options in Davenport. The larger, upgraded facilities will add technician jobs, improve customer amenities, and consolidate five Smart Automotive locations into one convenient corridor, reflecting the company's long-term investment in the city.
3. 'The Sweet Caroline Tour Starring Jay White,' October 9 (rcreader.com) — Neil Diamond fans in Davenport can catch the Sweet Caroline Tour starring tribute artist Jay White at the Adler Theatre on Friday, October 9, at 7:30 p.m. The show promises energetic live renditions of classics like "Cracklin' Rosie" and "Forever in Blue Jeans," with tickets starting at $39 and available through DavenportLive.com or by phone.
4. Quad Cities Pride in Memory maps LGBTQ+ history in the QCs (ourquadcities.com) — Quad Cities Pride in Memory is mapping local LGBTQ+ history, with artifacts and stories preserved at Davenport Public Library's Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center and the Putnam Museum. An Augustana College professor and students helped build an interactive Story Map, and organizers are now seeking community contributions and donations to support a feature-length documentary about the region's LGBTQ+ past.
