For buyers, some of these properties have recently sold at steep discounts, though experts warn they can come with hidden repair and maintenance risks.
2. Davenport launches program focusing on youth mental health (kwqc.com) — Davenport Parks and Recreation is launching STRONG Minds, an after-school mental health program for local youth ages 12 to 15 at Roosevelt Community Center, funded through an AmeriCorps grant. The fall session runs Oct. 13–Dec. 16, meets twice weekly, and costs $48 per eight-week session, with registration opening and closing on Oct. 9.
3. Tapestry Farms Announces Second Annual Harvest Moon Celebration: An Evening of Music and Community (rcreader.com) — Davenport residents are invited to the Harvest Moon Celebration on Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral on West 12th Street, with ticket proceeds supporting refugee neighbors. The evening features Davenport native and Metropolitan Opera soprano Claire Kuttler, other accomplished musicians, and a post-concert spread of Arabic sweets, all to celebrate community, hope, and Tapestry Farms' work in the Quad Cities.
4. Police: Davenport man charged with allegedly injuring 6-month-old, causing brain bleed (kwqc.com) — Davenport police have charged a 22-year-old local man with felony child endangerment after a 6-month-old in his care was found not breathing and later diagnosed with a skull fracture and brain bleed. The incident happened Saturday on North Marquette Street, and the child remains hospitalized while the suspect is held in Scott County Jail on over $1 million bond.
5. Sand in Davenport: Steel plant incentives should 'not (give) away the farm' (qctimes.com) — Rob Sand brought his 100 Town Hall Tour to Davenport's Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, telling a large crowd that Iowa should offer steel plant tax incentives without "giving away the farm." His Scott County stop also highlighted support for local food systems and drew hundreds of residents engaging with the Democratic gubernatorial candidate's vision for statewide economic policy.
