Former Wonder Bread factory building in Davenport set for demolition (wqad.com) — Davenport's former Wonder Bread bakery on East River Drive is now fenced off and headed for demolition, ending years of vacancy at a once-beloved riverside landmark. City officials and the property owner haven't yet shared what might replace the factory, leaving neighbors wondering what's next for this prominent Mississippi River site and its place in Davenport's industrial history.
2. Happy Joe's Acquired by Quad Cities Investor Group (qsrmagazine.com) — Happy Joe's new Quad Cities ownership group is taking over the franchising company and the company-owned restaurants in Davenport and Bettendorf, aiming to improve food consistency, menus, and birthday party experiences. The brand, founded in Davenport in 1972, will stay headquartered in the Quad Cities as the new team invests in local stores and support for franchisees.
3. Buffet chain closes locations as it seeks comeback (nj.com subscription) — Golden Corral has permanently closed its restaurant at 5202 Elmore Ave. in Davenport as part of a wave of six shutdowns across several states this year. The buffet chain, which is experimenting with new formats after past bankruptcy, cites rising costs, leases, and staffing challenges while trying to rebuild its brand with smaller, higher-quality concepts.
4. Conservation Action Network hosts confluence session in Davenport (ourquadcities.com) — Davenport residents interested in conservation can join the Bi-State Conservation Action Network's "Confluence" gathering Oct. 15 at Credit Island, running from 8 a.m. to noon. The morning includes a keynote from Nahant Marsh's director, hands-on art and data workshops, guided nature hikes, networking, and vendor tables, all aimed at strengthening regional environmental collaboration.
