Assistant city administrator and public works director Nicole Gleason will step in as acting administrator while the City Council decides next steps, with officials stressing that daily operations and services will continue uninterrupted.

Davenport voters heard him address a proposed tax-raising amendment, Area Education Agencies, and public money for private school expenses, while locals like John Martin pressed him to take clearer positions.
   

3. Davenport man charged after rooftop copper theft caused $40K in damage at Moline restaurant (kwqc.com) — A Davenport man is facing charges after investigators say he stole rooftop copper from Grinders & Spaghetti House in Moline, causing more than $40,000 in damage for less than $100 in scrap value. Walcott and Davenport officers arrested him after an I-80 chase, and he's now in Scott County Jail on unrelated Iowa charges while Rock Island County pursues the burglary case.
   

4. 'La Bamba' to cap Quad Cities Latino cinema series, attendees attendees to support local scholarships (kwqc.com) — Davenport film lovers can catch La Bamba on Oct. 14 at The Last Picture House, with proceeds supporting LULAC Council 10's local scholarship fund. The final night of the Quad Cities Latino Cinema Series will also feature Ballet Folklorico, live music, and local food, all aimed at celebrating Latino culture and helping area students pay for school.
   

5. Fugitive from Iowa found 14 years later working as a chef in California (khou.com) — Federal marshals have arrested a man in San Diego who was wanted for a 2012 kidnapping, assault, and arson case that began at a shared home in Davenport. Investigators allege he helped stage his own abduction, then joined others in attacking a woman and setting fire to her new boyfriend's house, and he now faces extradition back to Iowa.
