Happy Tuesday, Des Moines! Here's everything you need to know to get this day started. Here's what's going on around town today.

First, today's weather:

Breezy and cooler with rain. High: 54 Low: 36.

Here are the top three stories today in Des Moines:

  1. Following a light winter with few snow days, crews with Des Moines Public Works have roughly $2 million left in the snow removal budget. With spring's arrival, the Public Works Department plans to use the surplus to fix potholes across Des Moines. Residents can report potholes via the myDSMmobile app. (KCCI Des Moines)
  2. The Des Moines Fire Department is looking to fill two classes of recruits this year. One class will be comprised of certified firefighter recruits with experience in the field; the other class of recruits will not be required to have firefighting backgrounds. According to Des Moines Fire Chief John TeKippe, "Hiring both established firefighters as well as finding excellent candidates to start their careers with the DMFD is an excellent strategy [...] as our city grows and emergency calls continue to increase." (City of Des Moines, IA)
  3. If you're looking for a new job but firefighting isn't your calling, plenty of Des Moines companies are hiring! This week's local job roundup includes both full-time and part-time roles in customer service, higher education, retail, and more; remote/work-from-home positions are also available.
