Today's riddle: Why did the fish blush ? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Charges amended for DSM man accused of strangling, holding woman captive (who13.com) — A Des Moines man previously accused of strangling a woman and holding her captive during an hours-long barricade in the Gray's Woods neighborhood is now facing amended charges. A judge reduced one charge to assault causing bodily injury and lowered his bond, allowing his release ahead of a scheduled court appearance on September 24.
2. Water main break damages Highland Park street, leaves some residents without water (kcci.com) — A water main break in Des Moines' Highland Park neighborhood has torn up Eighth Street between Euclid and Clinton, closed the road, and left some residents with low or no water pressure. Des Moines Water Works is handling repairs and urges neighbors to avoid the damaged area, watch outage updates online, and run faucets briefly once service returns to clear cloudy water.
3. 'Nobody puts Buc-ee's in the corner!' Petition to secure location for West Des Moines (who13.com) — West Des Moines leaders are pushing a public petition to lure popular travel stop Buc-ee's to the metro after Urbandale rejected the project. The city is eyeing sites along I-35 and I-80, arguing a Des Moines-area location could boost tourism, jobs, and the tax base while potentially easing property taxes for West Des Moines residents.
4. First Baptist Church of Greater Des Moines marks 175 years of history and faith (kcci.com) — A longtime faith community that began in early Des Moines is celebrating 175 years since its founding at Fort Des Moines, reflecting on how it grew alongside the capital city. Now based in Johnston, First Baptist Church members share memories of multiple downtown moves, shrinking membership, and their hopes for remaining a spiritual "beacon" for Greater Des Moines residents.
