City Of Des Moines Offering Rebates For Soil Quality Restoration Projects This Fall

DES MOINES, IOWA – Tuesday, October 20, 2020 – As a part of the City’s Stormwater Best Management Practices Program, residents have the opportunity to be reimbursed for performing one of many qualifying best practices on their property. One of the options is Soil Quality Restoration (SQR) that can be done this fall until the ground is frozen.

The Stormwater Best Management Practices Subsidy Program is an incentive for private property owners to decrease the amount of stormwater runoff that ends up in the storm drainage system. The City will reimburse property owners 50% of the total cost of their project with a reimbursement limit of $2,000 if the project and property owner meet the requirements of the program.

Soil Quality Restoration (SQR) typically involves aeration, seeding, watering and compost application. Along with promoting better stormwater retention, this process reduces soil compaction, makes your yard greener, and reduces the need for watering and chemical application.
