The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Des Moines.

Good morning, neighbors! Sean Peek here with today's Des Moines Daily.

First, today's weather:

Sunshine and patchy clouds. High: 57 Low: 42.

Here are the top three stories today in Des Moines:

  1. A Des Moines artist has converted a bathroom into a gallery of found objects from artists around the world. Larassa Kabel, whose work has hung in the White House, has transformed the third-floor bathroom at Fitch Studios into a "Lost and Found" show. She hopes the exhibit will be featured across the country and give Iowa artists more exposure. Said Kabel, "It has a steady stream of visitors. Unlike art museums, everyone visits the bathroom." (Des Moines Register)
  2. Two people were hospitalized after a shooting on the city's north side Sunday night. When Des Moines police responded to a call in the neighborhood near Oak Park Elementary School, they discovered one man shot in the chest and another shot in the leg. Officers report the incident started as an argument over property, though they are still determining which individual shot first. (KCCI Des Moines)
  3. After resigning a year early, Des Moines Public Schools superintendent Tom Ahart will walk away from the district with the full $400,000 compensation he would have received through 2023. School board members who negotiated and approved the severance agreement have not made any public statement on the matter. The district has said it needs to cut over $9 million from the budget before the next school year. (Axios)
