- A Des Moines baker took home the grand prize in a new Netflix show, "Is it Cake?". The competition requires talented chefs to replicate non-cake items in cake form, then fool a panel of judges. Self-described "weirdo" Andrew Fuller won the competition with his stunning, lifelike designs and delicious flavors. (Local 5 - weareiowa.com)

- A new Southern restaurant officially opened downtown yesterday evening. Tupelo Honey's Grand Avenue location is the chain's first in Iowa, with other locations in North Carolina. According to COO Caroline Skinner, the comfort food joint aims to "[introduce] classic Southern dishes" — like cast-iron pork and collard greens — "with a little bit of creative spin to it."
