Des Moines City Opens Cooling Centers During Heatwave
The centers will be in the meeting room wings of Central Library and East Side Library from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through August 24-28.

DES MOINES, IOWA –Monday, August 24, 2020 – To provide relief to residents from the oppressive heat and humidity, the City of Des Moines this week will open two cooling centers. The centers will be in the meeting room wings of Central Library and East Side Library from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Friday, August 24-28.

While WiFi connectivity will be available in the meeting room to those who bring their own devices, there will be no access to computers or to the library because of closures related to coronavirus (COVID-19). Other services are not provided as a function of the cooling center.
Face coverings will be required and proper social distancing must be maintained for those utilizing the cooling centers.
