Des Moines City Providing Hot Meals Ahead Of Thanksgiving
Delivery of these meals will happen on Tuesday, November 24 and Wednesday, November 25, 2020.

DES MOINES, IOWA – Monday, Nov. 23, 2020 – Thanksgiving will be celebrated differently this year. With families making decisions to forgo traditional Thanksgiving celebrations due to COVID-19, the City of Des Moines will deliver 649 hot meals to elderly apartment complexes throughout the city this week.

"We're delivering these meals to those who cannot be with their families as they normally would this year," Neighborhood Services Director Chris Johansen said. "This is an effort by the city to provide a hot Thanksgiving meal to the elderly while allowing them to be safe at home."
The City of Des Moines, with the help of Hy-Vee, will be delivering the 649 hot meals to ten apartment complexes in all four wards throughout Des Moines. This includes all four of the City's public housing elderly buildings. The total amount of this program came to $6,490. Delivery of these meals will happen on Tuesday, November 24 and Wednesday, November 25, 2020.
