Des Moines Curbside Collections: 431 Loads A Day Drop Off Site Open Saturday

DES MOINES, IOWA – Friday, August 21, 2020 – The City of Des Moines Public Works Department began curbside collection of storm-related tree debris on Monday, August 17 and in just four days, more than 1,700 truck loads have been picked up and hauled off.“We ask that residents be patient as this will take some time to work through every neighborhood and every City street,” said Public Works Director Jonathan Gano. “What we once thought would take days, will likely take weeks.”

Crews are only stopping by each residence once. Residents can track where work has been done in the City through an interactive map.

If Des Moines residents can dispose of their own storm debris, they are encouraged to do so. The MWA Compost Center will be open again this Saturday, August 22 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1601 Harriett Street. SCRUB guidelines still apply, including trailer size restrictions.For additional information, residents are encouraged to call the 24-hour Public Works Customer Service Center at (515) 283-4950.
