Des Moines Names Malcolm Hankins Assistant City Manager

DES MOINES, IOWA — Monday, October 14, 2019 – The City of Des Moines announced today the hiring of Malcolm Hankins as an assistant city manager. Hankins is currently the director of neighborhood services in Aurora, Colo., a position he has held for more than three years.

“Malcolm brings a great deal of experience to Des Moines and we feel very fortunate to have him on board,” said City Manager Scott Sanders. “His professionalism and commitment to strengthening neighborhoods will make him a valuable addition to our community and the residents we serve.”

Hankins’s experience in local government spans nearly three decades and includes work in neighborhood revitalization, community relations and code enforcement in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Chandler, Ariz.

“I’m excited to join the City of Des Moines and serve as the new assistant city manager,” Hankins said. “I look forward to being part of the future that Des Moines has envisioned by helping support neighborhoods and promote community vibrancy.”

Hankins will join the City in late November. He replaces Phil Delafield who retired in July.
