Des Moines Public School North JROTC Continues Winning Ways With State Championship

The North High School JROTC rifle team continues their winning ways, picking up several honors at the recent Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) State Championships.

North won the team championship with a score of 2168 and took the top 3 individual spots. Senior Ayden Wells won the individual state Championship with a score of 551, followed by James Masteller with a 544 for 2nd place and Cecilia Zaragoza in 3rd with a score of 543.

North also took home several other individual honors in different age categories. Junior Tha Dah took 1st place in the AG-l category and sophomore Marina Sanchez placed third. Sophomore Hope Dobek earned 1st place in the AG-2 category and Anna Zaragoza finished third.

The North squad will compete in the virtual Marine Corps and JROTC National Championships in the coming weeks.

Closer to home, they will compete for the American Legion State Championship at Camp Dodge on March 20 and host the Iowa Junior Olympics State Championships on April 27.
