Des Moines Roads Have Been Pre-Treated And Crews Are Prepared To Combat Overnight Wintry Mix

"Our team has gotten out in front of this storm," Public Works Director Jonathan Gano said. "This will provide a perfect set of circumstances for the brine and rock salt we're planning on using to work and prevent major problems getting around Des Moines."

Salt brine is essentially a mix of table salt and water that acts as an anti-icing agent when applied to roadways.

Trucks have also been converted to carry salt spreaders to spread rock salt during and after the storm. Forecasts do not currently include a significant accumulation of snow during this round of winter weather, but Public Works officials are already tracking another snowstorm due later this week.
