Des Moines Student Artists Riding To School In Fire Trucks This Week
The students were selected for this unique opportunity based on their artwork submissions related to this year's fire prevention week.
DES MOINES, IOWA — Monday, October 21, 2019 — In conjunction with this month’s fire prevention week, the Des Moines Fire Department (DMFD) will be giving five elementary students rides to school in a fire truck. The students were selected for this unique opportunity based on their artwork submissions related to this year’s fire prevention week theme: “Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and practice your escape!”
The poster contest winners, who represent both public and private schools within Des Moines, will be picked up at their homes and driven to school by DMFD personnel in one of the department’s engines. Tuesday and Thursday’s contest winners will be traveling from their home and the zoo, respectively, to the St. Anthony School at 16 Columbus Avenue.
