Here are the top three stories in Des Moines today:

1. Des Moines police arrested Alejandro Lopez Escobedo in a drugs and firearms bust recently. Police seized more than 20 pounds of marijuana, 149 grams of cocaine, 136 grams of meth as well as cash and firearms from a Des Moines apartment. Lopez's case is scheduled in court next Friday. 2. Ice cream lovers, rejoice! Snookies Malt Shop, a Beaver Avenue icon since 1986, is reopening for the season! On Mar. 26 at 1 p.m., guests can line up for their Snookies favorites such as frozen bananas, peanut parfaits, turtle sundaes, and strawberry shortcakes. "This year, the walk-up window and drive-thru open for service, but the dining room remains closed," said worker Leslie Hunter said. (Des Moines Register)
3. The owner of a one-hundred-year-old building near the Iowa State Fairgrounds wants to disconnect the building's plumbing. The building at 2951 E Walnut Street is where Fairground Hardware is located. Disconnecting the plumbing is creating fear among some in the Des Moines Heritage Trust who believe the move will lead to demolition. (Local 5 - weareiowa.com)
