Flashboards Installed On The Des Moines River On July 21
Flashboards are two-feet high and nine-feet long and made of corrugated steel.

The City of Des Moines will be installing flashboards on the Center Street Dam on Tuesday, July 21 at 7:30 a.m., weather permitting. Boaters on the Des Moines River and at Birdland Marina should be advised that starting the afternoon of Monday, July 20, water levels will be lower for 24 to 36 hours.

Flashboards are two-feet high and nine-feet long and made of corrugated steel. When the Des Moines River drops, city staff installs flashboards to increase the water level by two feet and enhance water recreational activities on the river.
The outflow at the Saylorville Reservoir dam is adjusted so that city staff can walk on the Center Street Dam to install the flashboards. After the installation is complete, the outflow at Saylorville Reservoir dam is adjusted to fill up and elevate the water level by approximately two feet.
