Nick Schaul Named Des Moines Finance Director
Schaul replaces Bob Fagen who retired in December.

DES MOINES, IOWA – Tuesday, September 15, 2020 – The City of Des Moines announced today that Nick Schaul has been named the new finance director. Schaul has been serving as the interim finance director since the beginning of the year and was the assistant finance director prior.“Through the years in his different positions, Nick has brought invaluable expertise within finance in both budgeting and accounting to the City,” said City Manager Scott Sanders.

“His attention to detail and ability to view impacts at the highest budget levels will serve our organization and community well.”
Prior to becoming the assistant finance director for the City, Schaul served as the deputy comptroller.Schaul’s previous experience includes working for the City of Iowa City as their budget/management analyst and as an auditor for the State of Iowa.“I’m very thrilled to become the new finance director of the City of Des Moines,” Schaul said.“It is exciting to be a part of all of the great things that are happening.”
