Here are the top 3 stories today in Des Moines:

  1. Students at Central Academy held a walkout in protest of the state's new transgender athlete law on Friday. Governor Kim Reynolds signed the bill into law on Thursday, banning transgender girls from participating in girls' sports at the K-12 and college levels. More than 100 students made the trek from the school campus to the Governor's Mansion to demonstrate their opposition to the new legislation. (KCCI Des Moines)
  2. The City of Des Moines has officially suspended its sister city relationship with the Russian city of Stavropol in response to the invasion of Ukraine. Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie says the move is just a suspension and not a revocation, adding that city commissioners have reached out to partners in Stavropol to ask about their stance on the invasion. Stavropol and Des Moines have been sister cities for 30 years. (KCRG)
  3. The Harlem Globetrotters are coming to Des Moines this month as part of their Spread Gear tour. The team will perform at the Wells Fargo Arena on Mar. 22. Tickets can be purchased online or in person at the Arena ticket center. (Local 5 - weareiowa.com)
