First, today's weather:

Breezy; cloudy, then some sun. High: 70 Low: 46.

Here are the top three stories today in Des Moines:

  1. Des Moines police are investigating a shooting that sent two men to the hospital. Officers responded to a shooting at Whiskey River on Ingersoll around 11:30 on Saturday night. One man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and is expected to survive. A second man showed up at a West Des Moines hospital with a minor gunshot wound. Police determined he had also been shot at the same bar during the same incident; this investigation is still ongoing. (WHO TV 13 Des Moines News & Weather)
  2. The Newton City Council on Mar. 7 decided to contribute $15,760 for the next five years, instead of donating less than $500,000 to the terminal expansion project at Des Moines International Airport, which was requested by the executive director of the facility one month ago. Des Moines International Airport is seeking $34 million from Central Iowa counties and cities to contribute to the more than $575 million terminal expansion and leverage further funding. But not all council members approved of the idea, though the resolution passed with a 4-2 vote. (Newton Daily News)
  3. A community meeting in April will help form the blueprint for revitalization efforts in a Northeast Des Moines Neighborhood, where neighbors will be able to express their ideas about change to the neighborhood. The area of East 9th Street and Hull Avenue is prime for the effort. Plans about future changes to the area should be formalized by the first few months of 2023. (KCCI Des Moines)
