President Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa, in the build up to the state's caucuses.

DES MOINES, IA — President Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa, at Drake University's Knapp Center. The event comes just four days before Iowa Republicans and Democrats hold their party caucuses, the first voting contest of the 2020 presidential race.
Trump is scheduled to begin speaking at 7 p.m. local time.
Trump won Iowa's six electoral votes in the 2016 presidential election, and the rally is intended to show he's still popular in Iowa ahead of Monday's Iowa Caucuses and gives him a chance to shore up his base as his impeachment trial continues in the Senate.

Specifically, the rally comes a day before senators are expected to vote on whether additional witnesses should be called to testify and extend the trial.
In 2016, Trump failed to achieve victory in the Iowa Republican Caucus, with Sen. Ted Cruz placing first. He isn't running unopposed in 2020, with long-shot candidates Congressman Joe Walsh (R-IL) and former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld also on the ballot.
