Some sun, then clouds; warmer. High: 69 Low: 44.
Here are the top three stories in Des Moines today:
- The City of Des Moines is considering revoking the liquor license of The Yacht Club, located on Ingersoll Avenue. According to city documents, a Zoning Enforcement Officer determined activity at or around the bar "presented adverse impacts on the health, safety, and general welfare" of the community. The decision will be made at an upcoming planning and zoning meeting on Mar. 23. (KCCI Des Moines)
- Des Moines' Cajun Fest Boil & Brew is headed to its new home at the Iowa State Fairgrounds this year. Attendance is expected to top 2,500 — over triple the numbers from last year, according to event organizers. All proceeds for the Jun. 4 event go toward children's charities; the Cajun Fest has raised over $100,000 so far. (Axios)
- Sgt. Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police Department expressed his concern with increases in shooting incidents in the city. Des Moines has seen over 40 shooting incidents in the first quarter of 2022. According to Parizek, curbing this number will require prevention efforts — "and that's not something that just the police can do, we need the community support." (Local 5 - weareiowa.com)
