1. 10 dogs rescued from Johnson County torture and neglect case now ready for adoption (kcrg.com) — Ten dogs rescued from severe neglect in Johnson County are now healthy, fixed, and ready for adoption at the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center. Staff and volunteers spent weeks rehabbing the animals, even tripling shelter capacity at one point, and say these survivors have turned out to be affectionate, resilient companions looking for local homes.
2. Caitlin Clark Foundation brings book vending machine to Blank Children's Hospital (kcci.com) — Young patients at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital in Iowa City will now be able to choose free books from a new vending machine, thanks to the Caitlin Clark Foundation and Scholastic. The literacy initiative, also launched in Des Moines and Indianapolis, aims to give hospitalized kids comfort, choice, and moments of joy through reading.
3. Three Iowa City men face Riot charges after County Jail incident (1630kcjj.com) — Three Iowa City men already jailed on separate cases now face new felony riot charges after a reported fight Thursday night inside the Johnson County Jail's B Block. Deputies say the altercation left another inmate injured badly enough to need treatment at University of Iowa Health Care, and each suspect could receive up to five years in prison if convicted.
4. Iowa City man faces OWI and domestic abuse charges (1630kcjj.com) — An Iowa City man was arrested after deputies responded to a distressed 911 call and allegedly found him on top of his wife outside a residence at Breckenridge Estates Mobile Home Park. Authorities say he showed signs of intoxication, blew .184 on a breath test, and now faces first-offense OWI and domestic abuse assault causing injury charges that could bring up to two years in jail.
5. Emil and Marianna Trott mark 60 years of marriage (journal-advocate.com) — A longtime Colorado couple is celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, but their story began with a 1966 ceremony in Iowa City. Emil and Marianna Trott recently marked the milestone with family at a Sterling celebration, reflecting on decades together after his legal career and their years of RV travel.
