UI students talk dirty soda (dailyiowan.com) — Around Iowa City and on the University of Iowa campus, students are sampling trendy "dirty sodas," but most say they'd still rather stick with their usual coffee, energy drinks, or boba. With many loyal to existing downtown spots, students doubt a dedicated dirty soda shop could thrive here, especially given health concerns and the sense that the fad is already fading locally.
2. 11 members of the Center for Intellectual Freedom advisory council resign (kgloam.com) — In Iowa City, nearly half of the advisory council for the University of Iowa's Center for Intellectual Freedom has resigned, raising questions about the Board of Regents' oversight. Remaining members will meet soon to keep the center's transition to an independent entity on track and continue searching for a permanent director whose decisions could shape required classes for UI students.
3. Iowa City man arrested after alleged thefts from Senior Center (1630kcjj.com) — An Iowa City man has been arrested after police say he repeatedly stole electronics worth more than $3,500 from the Iowa City Senior Center, allegedly entering the building outside his approved work hours. Investigators report finding evidence of the thefts at his residence, and he now faces a second-degree theft charge that could bring up to five years in prison if convicted.
4. 'Just keep praying' (soloneconomist.com) — Community members from Solon and beyond recently gathered outside Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City to hold a candlelight vigil for Brian Vincent, who remains hospitalized at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a serious hit-and-run. His family says he is slowly improving, with small milestones giving them hope, and they're asking eastern Iowa residents to keep praying and supporting them.
