Area transient arrested after incident at downtown Iowa City hotel (1630kcjj.com) — Police say a previously trespassed man was arrested after returning to the Graduate Iowa City downtown, allegedly kicking an employee, damaging lamps, and stealing a T‑shirt before being detained. Officers also report finding a small amount of marijuana. He now faces multiple misdemeanor charges that could add up to more than four years in prison if convicted.
2. Teacher and 10-year-old student die in Iowa field trip accident (qazinform.com) — Iowa City families are mourning after a Borlaug Elementary fifth-grader and his teacher died following a School of the Wild field trip at MacBride Nature Recreation Area near Coralville Reservoir. Authorities identified the victims as 10-year-old Ahmed Osman of Iowa City and 24-year-old teacher Hannah Jorgensen of Tiffin, and say multiple agencies assisted recovery efforts while the Johnson County Sheriff's Office continues investigating.
3. 4 things we learned in Iowa City Liberty's 51-17 win vs Iowa City West (press-citizen.com) — Iowa City football fans saw Liberty roll past Iowa City West 51–17, keeping the Principal's Bell in North Liberty and delivering a much-needed offensive breakout. Quarterback Emerson Berner threw three touchdowns with no turnovers, while the Bolts' defense forced key takeaways and limited big plays. West's rushing success couldn't overcome early mistakes and secondary breakdowns.
4. American College of Surgeons/Pfizer awards recognize surgeons' efforts to bring quality surgical care to patients worldwide (newswise.com) — An Iowa City-based breast cancer surgeon is being nationally honored for expanding access to high-quality cancer care in rural communities. Dr. Ingrid Lizarraga of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will receive a major American College of Surgeons/Pfizer volunteerism award, recognizing her leadership in improving cancer programs across Iowa and beyond, including new accreditation pathways that help patients get treatment closer to home.
